Lug Nut Riddled Bowl |
|
Philips Head Motif Jar/ Urn With Lid |
This lidded jar was made on the potter's wheel. I attached some clay Philips head screw tops next to some pressed lines to give the appearance of sheet metal construction. It reminds me of 1950's sci-fi spaceships or robots. It is produced with stoneware clay and fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. The knob on the lid is hollow to keep the weight of the piece down. It was glazed in a Japanese khaki glaze that normally yields a shiny finish but I instead sandblasted it for an eggshell finish. Mineral oil was applied to produce its sheen. Click on each for a larger image. This jar is priced at $92.00.

Serving Bowl Shaped For Your Hand |
This altered pottery bowl measures 4 1/2" x 13 7/8" x 4 1/4". It has a black mottled ash glaze on the interior. The exterior is a light matte yellow. One side of the bowl was pushed up dramatically and rolled in towards the center. The result looks somewhat like a clam or other shelled water going creature. The inspiration actually came from a wooden bowl I saw. It is a little large for a snack bowl but it fits nicely between your thumb, up top, and your other fingers, on the bottom. So it'd be a great serving bowl with its transportableness. . It was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. Click on each for a larger image. This bowl is priced at $100.

Altered Serving Bowl Shaped For Your Hand |
This altered pottery bowl measures 3.75" x 13.25" x 5.5". It has a matte and semi gloss interior of medium nickel browns. The exterior is a light matte yellow. One side of the bowl was pushed up dramatically and rolled in a little towards the center. The result looks somewhat like a clam or other shelled water going creature. The inspiration actually came from a wooden bowl I saw in a 1996 SOFA book. It is too large for a snack bowl but fits nicely between your thumb, being placed on top, and your other fingers, on the bottom. So it'd be a great serving bowl with its ease and comfort of transport. Kinda reminds me of a burrito or fajita too. This bowl was fired to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit in a gas reduction kiln. Click on each for a larger image. This bowl is priced at $95.

Minoan Pancake Vase With Handles |
I figure if the Minoan civilization would have had pancakes, they'd have celebrated them in just this very way. Some of their pottery featured work adorned with octopus imagery. This piece features reproductions of buckwheat, 9-grain, and your standard gluten filled pancakes. The body of the pot was thrown in one piece and is made of stoneware. It measures 11" x 7" x 5". The reds are a combo of high and low fire glazes. The black around the pancakes is low fired. Wax-resist and latex were used to mask the pancakes before the first glaze firing to keep the different glazes seperate during the glazing process. Click on each for a larger image. This piece is priced at $ 200.00 ( includes shipping and handling). Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check out with the PayPal box below.

Three Level Gourd Shaped Bottle Of Green and Yellow |
This is a gourd-like shaped bottle made on the potter's wheel. It was fun to make because of its height and tall skinny neck that has two shapes thrown within it. I used some small star shapes to accent the profile of the bottle. The green is an ash glaze and the yellow is a very flexible low fire glaze, as is the black. Fortunately the black and yellow don't show brush marks. That's something that bothers me. Can't help it. It measures 11 5/8" x 6 x 3 3/4" and is made of stoneware clay. It was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. Click on each for a larger image. This piece is priced at $ 74.00 ( includes shipping and handling).

Rugged Terrain Landscape Bottle with Panels |
This stoneware was thrown on the potter's wheel. It measures 13" x 8" x 5 7/8". Since becoming a potter I have found old oriental pots decorated with native mountains to be quite spectacular. I like the angles these masses of earth took as they pushed upward. Most examples are decorated with brush and a single oxide within one glaze. I wanted to take a different approach and have multiple colors to make up the earth, horizon and sky. I also added a panel effect to conjure wooden blinds. The design was drawn on the pot with pencil and then latex was brushed over certain parts to mask for spraying glaze in a booth. Wax resist was also sprayed to aide in the decorative process. I go this route to avoid brush marks that would show if they had been brushed on. Click on each for a larger image. This piece is priced at $ 155.00 ( includes shipping and handling). Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check out with the PayPal box below.

Tall Bottle With Khaki and Chun Glazes |
This classic shaped oriental inspired bottle was wheel thrown and fired to about 2400 degrees in a gas kiln. The base glaze is a shiny Japanese saturated iron type with a Chinese inspired Chun glaze sprayed over it in a drip pattern. Where the Chun is thickest, it turns blue for a beautiful effect. It measures 16.5" tall x 8" at its widest x 5.5" at its base. Click on each for a larger image. This bottle is priced at $140.00. It includes shipping and handling. Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check with the PayPal box below.

Tall Ceramic Bottle with Iron Red and White Glazes |
This stoneware and wheel thrown bottle measures 13.5" tall x 7.75" at its widest and 4.5 in diameter at the base. The design was drawn on with pencil and then latex was brushed on to the lower half. The top half was then dipped in a saturated iron glaze. The bottle was then taken outside to have wax resist sprayed over the iron glaze. The latex was then peeled off to reveal the bare clay upon which I poured a shiny white glaze. The bottle then fired to almost 2400 degrees in a big gas kiln. It is water tight for functional use. Click on each for a larger image. This bottle is priced at $125.00. It includes shipping and handling. Bottle With Thorns In Yellow and Green |
This stoneware bottle was thrown on the potter's wheel. It measures 10 3/4" x 8 1/4" x 5 1/2". The lobes were created by pushing the clay in with a wooden rib. The thorns were added on one at a time. They were shaped like little potato spuds first and attached to the neck. With a bucket of water close by, I kept my fingers wet as I pulled these into sharp points. The body of the pot was painted in brushable latex and then the top area was glazed. That area was then sprayed with wax resist. When the resist dried some, the latex was pulled off to reveal the next area to be glazed. The resist aids in keeping any fluids from adhering to it. Lots of people like to use pots to display floral arrangements. I wanted the pot itself to resemble what usually goes inside them. This bottle was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit in a gas reduction kiln. Click on each for a larger image. This bottle is priced at $132.00. It includes shipping and handling. Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check with the PayPal box below.

Bottle Of Gesture With Red And White Glazes |
This bottle was thrown on the potter's wheel. It is made of stoneware clay. It measures 10 1/8" x 7 3/4" x 4". The handles are from a hollow wheel thrown doughnut form that was cut up and put back together in different angles to infer a living thing. The red glaze is a saturated red iron oxide type. The white glaze shows iron spots on stoneware bodies. The design was drawn on with a pencil and employed latex and wax resist to keep the two glazes separate. This bottle was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit in a gas reduction kiln. Click on each for a larger image. This bottle is priced at $110.00. It includes shipping and handling. Rivulet Ash Glazed Pedestal Vase/Wine Chiller |
This vase with built-in pedestal measures 13 1/8" x 7 1/2" x 7 1/4". It is made of porcelain and was thrown on the potter's wheel. This piece would make for a great wine chiller or host a large floral arrangement. It has a wood ash glaze that has been softened and fluxed by the atmospheric soda ash firing that it went through. The glaze exhibits its usual rivulet effect that resembles a hedgerow The white-orange glaze in the ovals are of a high rutile content. The interior glaze is an olive green celedon. The ovals were drawn on free handed with pencil and then a liquid latex was brushed within each to mask the ash glaze that was sprayed over all the exterior. Wax resist was then sprayed over glaze. The latex was then peeled away to show the bare porcelain beneath. The rutile glaze was then applied within the ovals. This work was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit in a soda kiln. Click on each for a larger image. This piece is priced at $162.00. It includes shipping and handling. Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check with the PayPal box below.

Bird Bath / Pedestal Bowl of Green and Yellow |
This bird bath with green and yellow glazes is made into 2 pieces for ease-of-use. The bowl is separate from the base so you can clean and refill without having to carry the bottom too. The pedestal was made to fit the bowl, so it cradles nicely. There is a glaze line on the bowl to use for leveling adjustment. Together they measure 15.25" x 16.25" x 8.75". These should not be kept outside during wintertime because the pieces could crack from freezing water. During this downtime, could be used inside for displaying decorations or as a standalone piece. This bath was thrown on a potter's wheel and altered by hand and a wooden tool. It was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit in a gas kiln. Click on each for a larger image. This bird bath/ pedestal bowl is priced at $350.00 ( includes shipping and handling ) Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check out with the PayPal box below.

Mother Sake and Her Children |
This porcelain sake set was made on the potter's wheel. There is a black and white bottle and 18 cups of varying colors included. Since all colors mixed together make black, I wanted each cup to be its own color and shape to show individuality. To relate the cups back to the bottle I glazed their interiors black. The white interior of the bottle gives it a visual volume. The bottle measures 5 1/2" x 3". The cups measure from 1 3/4" - 2 1/2" tall to 1 1/2" - 2 1/4" wide. As much of my work is, this was a labor of love to mix up 19 different glazes to spray each one of these pieces with. And for Pete's sake please enjoy you sake responsibly. Abstract Bird Pitcher of Green, Yellow and Red |
This porcelain pitcher measures 11 1/4" x 7 1/2" x 6". It is part of the series of pitchers that is inspired by birds of paradise. During the throwing process on this piece, I began to collar in the clay, towards the top, after having pushed the body out. I then cut were it was tapering in, along a line and set the top aside. The bottom was then pulled up more and then closed in entirely. Once the pieces dried some, I cut the top at an angle, so that there would be "movement" in the pitcher and then traced the outline on the bottom half and cut the excess away to be able to join the parts together again. The handle and rim were pulled by hand. The color blocking was tricky, using masking tape, wax resist, latex and a spray booth. Click on each for a larger image. This pitcher is priced at $120.00 ( includes shipping and handling ). Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check out with the PayPal box below.

Midnight Blue and Orange Blast Ewer |
This stoneware ewer was thrown on the potter's wheel. It measures 9 7/8" x 10" x 3 5/8". It features a dark blue to black wood ash glaze that has a mottled texture. This resembles veins or tears. A saturated rutile glaze that has a buttery orange finish is splashed in the middle of the lower body on each side. I sprayed a thin layer of a white glaze around the orange to emphasize the contrast. The pulled handle is free floating and doesn't attach to the top half. Because of this design if you're going to use this to pour with, please hold from the bottom as well as the handle. Click on each for a larger image. This ewer is priced at $90.00 (includes shipping and handling ).

Lidded Ceramic Jar With Red, White and Blue Stripes |
This ceramic jar was wheel thrown with stoneware. It measures 8.75" in height and is 8.5" in diameter where the lid and jar meet. The knob and lid are one piece and were thrown off the hump. This means that from a large mass of clay on the potter's wheel, a smaller mass at the top was portioned for the lid and knob. The knob was thrown hollow to save on the weight of the piece. During the glazing process, latex was brushed into the drawn lines. Then a copper red glaze was poured over the whole piece. Over this a rutile blue glaze was poured. Wax resist was then sprayed over everything. The latex was then peeled away to reveal the drawn stripes. I then poured a nice white into that area. After the pot was fired, I masked the white glaze and then sandblasted the red and blue area, that once was shiney, to get a eggshell finish. Click on each for a larger image. This jar is priced at $222.00 ( includes shipping and handling). Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check out with the PayPal box below.

Brown Eggshell Finish Jar With Lid |
This stoneware jar was made on the potter's wheel. It measures 14" x 4 7/8" x 3 3/4". It's lines are a mix of classical and some art deco. It reminds me of early 20th Century skylines. The finish...industrial. The knob on the lid is hollow to keep the weight of the piece down. It was glazed in a Japanese khaki glaze that normally yields a shiny finish but I instead sandblasted it for an eggshell finish. Mineral oil was applied to produce its sheen. It was fired to almost 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. You may notice a dark circle on the bottom. It is epoxy that filled a small crack. It does not harm the structural integrity of the piece. Click on each for a larger image. This jar is priced at $88.00 (includes shipping and handling).

Pair of Planters with Blue and Yellow Glazes |
These are a pair of stoneware planters made on the potters wheel. They measure 15.5" x 10.5" x 11.5" and 16.75" x 8.5" x 15.5". They don't have holes in the bottom, so crushed rock or gravel would be good to line the bottom with to avoid root rot. The drip line was drawn on and the I used wax resist and latex to keep the colors seperate. The blue glaze is 60 % volcanic ash and uses cobalt as its colorant. Before the first firing and while the clay was still wet, I brushed a few coats of porcelain slip onto the stoneware surface. This made for brighter colors (especially the yellow) in the finished product, as stoneware has iron content and porcelain doesn't. The handles were wheel thrown too and are hollow rings. Click on each for a larger image. These two planters are priced at $430.00 for the pair (includes shipping and handling). Financing is an available option ( for purchases of $99 and greater ) when you check out with the PayPal box below.
